Noreen Simplicio (Zuni)

Noreen Simplicio is a young artist in the forefront of a new generation of potters who are leading a resurgence of the ancient craft of pottery making in their home, the Pueblo of Zuni in western New Mexico. Noreen’s unique pottery forms are characterized by a distinctive delicacy of design that combines traditional Zuni pottery symbols with contemporary design elements of her own creation. She specializes in miniatures, and in bowls and vases sculptured with scenes of ancient pueblo dwellings that are fully detailed with tiny figures of pueblo inhabitants. She has won various first, second and third place awards in such shows as the Desert Indian Show in Palm Springs, California, Museum of Northern Arizona, Zuni Show at Museum of Northern Arizona, Heard Museum Show and the Santa Fe Indian Market.
